Today I added the No. 40 Catalog and the No. 42 Price List. The 42 Price List was an update for the Nos. 40 and 40-P catalogs, effective Dec. 1, 1941…just 6 days before Pearl Harbor. The Price List contained the ominous paragraph, “Note. Items priced in italics may be temporarily suspended in production due to the National Emergency and available only while present stocks last.”
Also interesting is the fact that the Nos. 40 and 40-P catalogs, copyrighted in 1939, were still being used at the end of 1941. I’m guessing the might have been used in 1942 as well. The war years were nothing if not disruptive to business as usual.
